‘We don’t just put innovations to paper, we bring them to market.’
Dorothee Bär, Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space
The High-Tech Agenda Germany aims to unite forces in our country to strengthen our innovative power, maintain our competitiveness and secure our prosperity. It addresses key challenges facing our society while promoting its technological potential. The focus here is on all stakeholders joining forces, right up to the European level, and on a common understanding of the measures required to consolidate Germany's position as a nation of technological innovation, ensure technological independence and maintain economic strength. The High-Tech Agenda therefore serves as a guideline for technological, economic and social objectives.
The six key technologies were selected on the basis of their technological innovation potential and their application opportunities in addressing key societal challenges. With new (high-tech) developments in these areas of technology, Germany aims to increase its competitiveness and technological sovereignty and address priority areas of life such as health, climate protection and energy supply (see also ‘Strategic Research Fields’).
The German High-Tech Agenda initially focuses on six priority key technologies that are particularly relevant for Germany as a business location in the current geopolitical situation. These may be changed or expanded in line with future developments in the environment. To this end, strategic foresight methods will be used and regular dialogue will take place with relevant stakeholders from science, industry, politics and society, as well as with the federal states and European partners.
The High-Tech Agenda is a participatory agenda and is deliberately aimed at all potential partners in Germany and the EU, partners from research, companies, start-ups, investors, practitioners and civil society, and of course the federal states, which are responsible in many ways for the innovation and performance of our country. It is particularly aimed at young people in Germany. We want to generate enthusiasm for new technologies and their potential and encourage people to get involved in tackling the major challenges of our time.
