Funding

The High-Tech Agenda Germany aims to strengthen high-performing innovation ecosystems and accelerate the transfer of research into practical application. It is implemented through technology-specific roadmaps and concrete flagship initiatives. In addition, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) supports this funding with targeted measures such as High-Tech Spaces, new funding instruments and initiatives to strengthen the links between research, development and application.

The High-Tech Spaces mark the launch of a key cross-technological initiative within the HTAD, sending a forward-looking signal regarding innovation and structural policy for Germany as a technology hub. The aim is to link the HTAD’s key technologies and research fields, thereby systematically strengthening the international competitiveness of high-performing innovation ecosystems.

With the AI Robotics Booster, the German government aims to position Germany as an internationally competitive player in AI-based robotics and embodied artificial intelligence. The AI Robotics Booster is designed to help translate scientific expertise more quickly into industrial applications, marketable technologies and economic competitiveness. To this end, the German government is providing 100 million euros, divided into two funding streams – the funding guideline for the development of robo-hubs and a challenge on AI-based multi-purpose robots, run by the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation (SPRIND).

The F.A.S.T. Transfer Initiative (Research, Spin-offs, Scaling, Transfer) transforms promising research findings into market-ready innovations – quickly, effectively and with minimal red tape. As a key lever of the German High-Tech Agenda, F.A.S.T. addresses one of the greatest structural challenges facing the German innovation system: the gap between excellent research and commercial application.

As part of the model projects of the F.A.S.T. Transfer Initiative, SPRIND is focusing on two challenges in key technologies central to the High-Tech Agenda: quantum sensor technology and bioproduction under microgravity.

Advice on Funding Opportunities

In addition to the HTAD-specific measures linked above, the German federal government and the European Union provide funding for a wide range of other topics and areas of activity. Many of these contribute to the objectives of the HTAD.

For the EU’s ‘Horizon Europe’ research framework programme, the National Contact Points are the first port of call for information and advice on funding instruments and opportunities. You can find the relevant contact persons here (German only).
