Federal and State Governments Discuss Opportunities for Participation in AI Robotics Booster
1 minutes to read 20. January 2026
The AI offensive of the High-Tech Agenda Germany (HTAD) is gaining momentum: On 15 January 2026, an initial virtual discussion between the federal and state governments on the AI Robotics Booster took place. The dialogue focused on participation opportunities for scientific institutions, industry and the states.
The AI Robotics Booster is one of the flagship measures of the AI offensive launched by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) following a decision by the HTAD to generate ten percent of our economic output using AI by 2030. The concept paper ‘Flagship Measure of the High-Tech Agenda Germany: AI Robotics Booster’ (in German) provides for three funding announcements that complement each other synergistically – from research laboratories and multi-purpose robots to the establishment of transfer centres:
The expansion of research laboratories at universities and non-university research institutions of the Robotics Institute Germany will lay the foundation for collaborative research in future research and development projects and in the training of skilled workers.
In three to four large flagship projects, science and industry will jointly research innovative AI-based multi-purpose robots (e.g. humanoids, animaloids, drones).
The establishment of transfer centres will strengthen transfer and regional expertise.
