Shaping the Future Together: Technology Roadmaps for Microelectronics and Quantum Technologies

Another important step in the implementation of the High-Tech Agenda Germany (HTAD) : With two high-level dialogues (“Partnerdialoge”) on microelectronics (9 February, together with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) and quantum technologies (10 February), we, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), are working with the community to develop a roadmap for strengthening value creation and technological sovereignty in Germany. The focus is on jointly developing roadmaps – strategic guidelines that connect research, industry, politics and society on the path to the digital future.

Why this is important:

Microelectronics and quantum technologies are two of the priority key technologies in the HTAD. They are crucial for Germany's future competitiveness, innovative strength and social progress. But how can we make the leap to the top of the global rankings? By pooling the knowledge, perspectives and, in particular, the activities of all stakeholders: from science and industry to the federal and state governments and civil society. This is the only way to create roadmaps that are not only technologically ambitious, but also generate added value and enjoy broad social support.

Projects with impact

The partner dialogues show that technological leadership is a joint effort. Every voice counts, every contribution helps us move forward. With this process, the Federal Government is not only creating a clear framework for action, but also a platform for exchange on the major issues of our time: How do we secure our technological sovereignty? How do we shape innovation responsibly? And how do we make Germany a pioneer in the technologies of tomorrow?

The microelectronics partner dialogue focused on discussing the draft roadmap and feedback from the community on the focus and ambition of the first milestones. It was particularly important to the participants to keep in mind the connection between microelectronics technologies and European customers and applications in all measures.

Meanwhile, the exchange on quantum technologies focused on the implementation of quantum computing applications. In an open dialogue with the community, the most important transfer initiatives to date were identified and synergies discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of optimised software in subsequent value creation. In addition, specific milestones were discussed in order to create the most efficient framework possible for bringing together potential users and experts of quantum computing.
