Roadmaps

The High-Tech Agenda Germany initially focuses on six key technologies that are central to our country’s future. With concrete roadmaps and defined milestones, we are driving forward their research and application-oriented development in a targeted and transparent manner: in collaboration with partners from industry, academia and the federal states.

Germany aims to become a world-leading centre for AI in collaboration with its European partners. The High-Tech Agenda Germany lays the groundwork for this: by expanding our computing power, providing access to large datasets, and fostering better collaboration between developers, users, innovators and investors.

This will create new applications, jobs and added value. At the same time, dependencies will be reduced and AI ‘Made in Germany’ strengthened – trustworthy, secure and in line with European values.

Quantum technologies offer significant opportunities for data usage and security, as well as for the medicine and mobility of the future and space travel. Microelectronics lies at the heart of cutting-edge technology and therefore has a direct impact on people’s everyday lives and how we live together: microchips are not only found in mobile phones, tablets and computers. Microelectronics also regulates energy supply, controls medical technology and data flows for the internet, and enables a modern, secure and connected way of life.

The independent development of high-performance chips is therefore crucial for Germany’s economy and security. The High-Tech Agenda Germany strengthens security of supply through investment in chip design, production and the transfer of research into practical applications. In this way, we aim to reduce dependencies, create robust supply chains and become Europe’s leading location for chips.

Biotechnology has the potential to significantly improve our quality of life and has a direct impact on health, nutrition and the environment: medical biotechnology enables the development of new vaccines and personalised therapies. Industrial biotechnology helps to produce materials and food more sustainably, whilst plant biotechnology safeguards harvests and makes agriculture more resilient.

Fusion harnesses the same principle as our sun and has the potential to provide a virtually unlimited supply of clean energy. It can therefore ensure a secure and independent energy supply in the long term.

Through investment in infrastructure, networking and knowledge transfer, the High-Tech Agenda Germany is creating the conditions needed to strengthen research, start-ups and industry in a targeted manner, bring innovations to market more quickly and safeguard Germany’s technological sovereignty.

Batteries are a key technology for the future of climate-neutral mobility and climate-neutral energy generation, and have a direct impact on our everyday lives: they enable electric cars to operate, contributing to cleaner air and quieter traffic. Batteries store energy to ensure a secure, sustainable energy supply and help maintain a stable electricity grid.

The High-Tech Agenda Germany strengthens research, production and the transfer to practical applications in order to make innovations available more quickly. In this way, high-performance batteries are developed, value is created and dependencies are reduced.
